How to Remit PST to British Columbia

Non-residents or businesses without a Canadian bank account can pay their Provincial Sales Tax (PST) and Municipal and Regional District Tax (MRDT) through a  SWIFT wire transfer.

Because British Columbia requires a manual matching process for wires, you must follow a two-step process:  sending the funds  and then  validating the payment via email.

Send the Wire Transfer

Before initiating the transfer with your bank, please keep the following in mind:

  • All wire transfers must be sent in Canadian dollars (CAD).
  • Ensure your bank does  not  deduct the wire fee from the total payment amount. In your bank's wire interface, always select the  "OUR"  charge code to ensure you cover all transaction costs.

Provide these exact details to your financial institution.

Validate Your Payment (Required)

If you do not validate your payment, BC tax authorities cannot match your payment to your account. This may result in late payment penalties and interest may be charged.

As soon as the transfer is complete, send a validation notice to:

  • Email:  [email protected]
  • Subject Line:  Wire Payment – [Your Business Name] – [Your PST Number]

What to include in the email:  Even if you have already filed your return via  eTaxBC , you must include the following details in your email:

  • eTaxBC Confirmation Number  (received after filing your return online)
  • PST Number  (Format: PST-XXXX-XXXX   )
  • Amount Paid  (in CAD)
  • Payment Date
  • Return Period  (e.g., October 1, 2024 to October 31, 2024)

Key Deadlines

To avoid late charges, your tax return (filed via eTaxBC) and your wire payment must be received by the Ministry  on or before the last day of the month  following the end of your reporting period.
