From 1 July 2021, Canada introduced a 30,000 CAD registration threshold for GST/HST for non-resident vendors. Read the Canadian Revenue Agency update here.
Quaderno takes care of all GST, HST, PST, RST, and QST calculations for your business.
Quaderno can calculate GST/HST and all provincial taxes in Canada. To get started, check out:
Once you've added one of these jurisdictions, you'll see all tax collected reflected in your Canada report.
If your business is registered for GST/HST and no other provincial tax (PST, RST, QST), you only need to add the jurisdiction
Canada - GST/HSTon the jurisdictions page.
If you are registered for PST in British Columbia or Saskatchewan in addition to GST/HST, you can add the corresponding
PSTas a separate jurisdiction. This setup ensures your customers are charged both the GST/HST and your provincial tax accordingly.
If you are registered for RST in Manitoba in addition to GST/HST, you can add
Manitoba - RSTas a separate jurisdiction. If your business is located in Manitoba, this setup ensures your customers are charged GST and RST accordingly.
If you are registered in QST in Quebec in addition to GST/HST, you can add
Quebec - QSTas a separate jurisdiction. If your business is located in Quebec, this setup ensures your customers are charged both the GST/HST and QST accordingly.
Quaderno will automatically notify you when you reach a registration threshold for GST/HST, or if you reach a registration threshold in a Canadian province. You can also keep track in your thresholds report. You'll find more information on these thresholds in our Worldwide Tax Guides:
How does Quaderno determine which province my customer is located in?
Quaderno uses the customer's postal code and country to determine the province. If you're using one of our integrations, please ensure your payment processor or platform is collecting this information and sending it to Quaderno.
I would like both GST and QST to be displayed in the checkout before the customer purchases. Is this possible?
We'd recommend using Quaderno Checkout to display GST and QST before the customer purchases. At the moment, some checkouts and payment processors (including WooCommerce and Stripe) only allow one tax rate to be assigned to a product or line item. We'd recommend selling with tax-inclusive prices on these platforms, and Quaderno will show the tax breakdown on the final Quaderno invoice.
I am a non-Canadian business. Will Quaderno keep track of my total sales to Canada and my sales to each province that has a threshold?
Yes, you will see separate jurisdictions on your thresholds report for GST/HST, British Columbia, Quebec, and Saskatchewan. If you reach the registration threshold for GST/HST, Quaderno will continue tracking your sales to individual provinces separately so you'll know when you may need to register for PST/QST as well.
