Customizing document numbers
Quaderno assigns every document a sequential number with an optional prefix, regardless of its status (paid, outstanding, etc).
To configure your numbering, head to the preferences page, where you can modify the following for each document type:
- Prefix: letter or number combination to be included before each document number.
- Number: number of the next document that will be created. Particularly useful when migrating to Quaderno — by default, Quaderno shows the next number in your current sequence.
Add the tag {{YY}} or {{YYYY}} to your prefix to automatically include the current year.
Keep in mind:
- Numbering sequences are reset at the beginning of each year.
- Suffixes are not supported, only prefixes.
- Only one sequence per document type is supported. To use a different sequence, create a separate Quaderno account.
- Letters are accepted in the Number field, but they increment alphabetically — for example, "ABC" will become "ABD" on the next document. Use letters in the Prefix field only.
- Use at least as many digits as the number of documents you expect to create in a year. For example, for 1,000 documents, use at least four digits ("001", "0001", "00001", etc).
