Once an invoice is made final, you will no longer be able to edit the legally binding invoice information. If you need to make any changes, you can issue a credit note and create a new invoice.
All invoices that have been sent to the customer and all invoices created via an integration are always final invoices.
An invoice is made final when any of the following occur:
- The invoice is sent to the customer. All sent invoices are final and cannot be edited.
- The invoice was generated by an integration. All automated invoices are final and cannot be edited.
- The invoice is manually made final in the invoice option menu. The
make finaloption blocks the invoice and prevents future modifications.
On a final invoice, the following details cannot be modified:
- invoice number
- invoice date
- customer's tax ID
- invoice item's price and tax rates
On a final invoice, you will still be allowed to edit the item's descriptions, customer's street address (except country) and add tags and additional notes.
If I mark an invoice as final, will I still be able to edit it?
Once you make the invoice final, the invoice will block many details like invoice number and date, customer's tax ID or item's price and tax rates. You will still be able to edit the item's descriptions, customer's street address (except for country) and add tags or additional notes.
If I haven't marked the invoice as final, can I edit all the information?
Yes, as long as the invoice has not been sent to the customer, generated by an integration, or manually marked as final, you can edit all the information.
Does this change affect my custom integration?
Yes. Read our API upgrading guide in the developer docs if you need to update your integration. All the integrations on already comply.
